I am playing catch up with my blogging.

Monday - made a little money on a quick USDJPY PB trade. Had to work on new webinar stuff so that was all I could focus on at the moment. But money made is a good day!

Tuesday - took a step back. No trades at all that I wanted to enter. Had to leave the trading floor early so I missed a good part of the morning.

Wednesday - started off poorly with a House call on a GBPUSD trade that went against us (at first). This trade would have eventually paid out but would have stopped me out first. So, I did what I HAVEN'T done in the past...closed the order with a small loss!! Yes, Papa, I'm finally getting it :-)

Followed that with a great GBPUSD trade that fell over 70 pips!! Made back my loss and then some!

Look ma! No hands! Training wheels are coming off ;-)
It's finally sinking in...dare I say?...I'm developing a Trader's mentality? Whoop there it is!

Now I just need more HOURS to trade. Have to fit it in for a longer period of time.
Looking forward to the new webinar format. Gives me a chance to develop myself more as I share more with the participants.

you know when to enter and when to exit.
For example, AFTER you hear a high impact economic announcement.

So we waited on the Live Trading Floor.
Result? Gained 30% in my live account.

Entered the GBPUSD for a Sell to 1.5000.
Turned out to be a great decision...101.7 pips later, I was out!

Reasons to enter?
1) One of my trusted Mentors is in town and was at the Live Trading Floor. He mentioned the level, AND more importantly...
2) I had drawn a TRENDWALL two weeks ago which provided the confirmation I needed to feel safe in the trade. I've been watching the GBPUSD bounce off my trendwalls (both buys and sells) and providing opportunities for paid trades that I used for study purposes
3) I saw important levels in our charting system that lined up and marked the target with a big fat "X" for me to trade to this morning

I was looking so forward to this week of volatility.
Good trading, I thought.

However, what I'm finding is that there is either a lull with nothing to trade...no signals going off, nothing to enter - or there is unpredictable movement that I don't feel comfortable trading. The market isn't doing what I expect it to do in many cases. Can't get a feel for it today.

So I'm observing and studying.

I couldn't post on Wednesday, I was so ANGRY with myself.
I'll get to that in a minute. (Grab a snack, this is a longish one - three days' of blogging to catch up - but you might find a nugget or two in it for yourself)

Today (Friday) I didn't see any trades worth entering. There were only a couple of really decent ones and I was not focused nor experienced enough in those models to risk my profits just to say "I traded today". I passed. An honorable decision sometimes. Today is May 1 holiday in most of Europe (Except UK) so things were really slow - just look at the volume on the EURUSD this morning and you'll see what I mean. So, no trades today. I felt somehow incomplete about not keeping my promise to trade every day, but it seemed the wiser move.

As for yesterday, took 52 pips off of the USDCHF on a simple little PB on which I had 2 orders as well as a cost average of where it went against us. Man, I love this stuff! Even when I'm aggravated, I know the POWER of the Forex market. That's what makes me so angry to lose $$. I'm up 27% in TEN trading days (not counting today). Tell me about YOUR 401(k) and let's compare (mine included, which is -42% at the moment).

My trading buddy, Jim, showed me a financial calculation today that if I make just 2.7% each and every day (which I am easily averaging - some days 6-8%) I will grow my small initial live account into over $500k in 12 months. Wowsa - speaks volumes about the power of this market and the potential at my fingertips every morning. And people think I'M crazy for getting up so dang early Monday through Friday. I say, someone would be crazy NOT to get up for that kind of compounding potential!! I'll happily keep on doing it.

I'm learning more and more each day about the trades and about myself and about the market. It's incredible. I learn so much from my trading partners and from my Mentors that I'm always thrilled to be there - even if it does mean waking up at 3:30am. (Now just to find time to hit the gym since my trading has taken the time slot :-)

Ok, let's address Wednesday...I was so emotionally charged from it I couldn't blog immediately.

What happened:
I got into two little PB trades in the afternoon (1:42pm and 2:10pm to be more precise). Bad idea in the first place. Let's continue though. USDCHF. Went against me then I attempted cost averaging.
Kept tanking so I wouldn't take the loss (nor the 22.5 pip profit I was for a bit). Wanted it all. Believed I could get it. Really truly did.
Breached each and every one of my fib lines, my trendwalls and our proprietary indicators. Did I get out? Of course not.
Impact? I didn't sleep all night (and consequently, neither did my Honey) - kept watching the dang thing, checking it or thinking about it. Suffering (and inflicting suffering on the innocent)
Result? Lost 18% of my account. Not good at all. Depressing in fact.

The WORST part? I could have lost MUCH less - 120 pips less to be exact - if I'd have TRUSTED MY OWN INSTINCTS (see Wednesday's blog entry). Why do I say that?
1) I hit "enter" and "cancel" THREE times on that trade, knowing there were reasons NOT to enter. A fellow trader pointed out really good reasons to enter and I jumped on board, thinking they knew better than me (not that he was wrong, but it wasn't a good trade FOR ME)
2) When getting out, I had a STRONG GUT FEELING that I could recoup almost 1/2 of what I was losing if I just waited for the USD announcements on Wednesday. Being in the mortgage banking industry, I know if it's negative numbers (and in this market, it usually is) then the dollar will tank (which will cause interest rates to rise). I KNEW if I waited, the dollar would tank, the CHF would rise and I'd make back some of my lost pippage. My trading partners gave me really good reasons why I should swallow my pride, buck up to the evidence and exit right away. I clicked out, sick to my stomach. What happened? It went RIGHT UP TO MY ORIGINAL STOP, which would have recouped me over 120 pips!!!!!!!

(((((The good news?)))))
I did what I did the other time I made such a stupid mistake...I did what a Trader does...I TRADED MY WAY BACK.
In about an hour, I was up for the day. Only a measly 5.5 pips, but at least not a loss. But the impact was that I LOST a day's profits and the compounding that does in my live account. I violated the rule. Don't lose Pips and Money!!!

As I do, I looked at the lessons learned. What I saw for myself was:
1) TRUST MY INSTINCTS - other traders are knowledgable and I learn TONS from being with them and discussing trades with them. However, sometimes I just know what I know and that's what I need to trust. No one will take my losses but me. I am responsible for my trade decisions, so I may as well do what I think is best.

2) Don't go looking for justifications when the obvious is right in front of my eyes

3) Don't be stubborn or too greedy! Take the pips when they're there (22.5 pips each on 2 entries is still a good trade). Take the loss before it overcomes the past profits.

4) Don't forget the risk management tool. Even if I am comfortable risking slightly more than 3% (say 5%), watch the stops! My stops were pretty well calculated but they were too large for the potential gain. Would you risk 1/2 of everything you own (your cash savings, your home, your car, your retirement, your slush fund, etc.) to gain $100? It's kind of like that.

5) Don't think I can ignore the BOSS in the market!!!!! When the day, the week, the 4 hr ROI's are down, it's gonna head DOWN for criminy's sake!! Even if the short term ROI's are up, the Boss dictates the trade. It should pay out quickly enough to dictate the payout, but the Boss always supercedes. Even Cool hand Luke found out that you can't ignore the Boss!

So that's my second half of the week. Still up 27% in the account. Still came out ahead. But Man oh Man did I SUFFER to do it.

Done with that.

Looking forward to a week full of volatility (and exciting trades :-) next week. Non farm on Friday will definitely get me a little extra sleep. No sense getting up if we're not gonna trade. And we're NOT gonna trade till the Fat Non Farm lady sings. I might be stubborn, but I'm not a glutton for punishment!! :-)

Took the GBPUSD for a 61 pip/110 pip total gain today (and a little PB on the GBPJPY)!
Still behind in my marathon to $95k but up 25% in my live account after only NINE trading days. I'm done with taking too big losses.

Fished all morning until we found triplicated levels with fib lines and trendwalls.
Thank goodness I took the time to draw trendwalls last night before going to bed. Gave me an early start this morning.

I've clearly developed the habit of trading every day. Even if my body doesn't want to get up at 3:30 am, my eyes are open. Posted on my Facebook today and it made me think...something to the effect of "Up 110 pips today LIVE $. Off to my "real" job where if I work a 12 hour day today, I might get paid in 45 days IF everything goes well...and WHY exactly am I doing it this way?"

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

I'm paying attention and now the stakes are much greater than just getting to the finish line of $95k. It's a lifestyle I want to create for myself so that no matter what happens for the rest of the day, I'm comfortable that I've earned what I intended for the day - without waiting for others to decide.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Well, looking at my account, I AM up the 17% in just EIGHT trading days.

I am, however, behind in doubling my account in 30 calendar days.

A few things I've noticed:

1) I was very trepidatious in the beginning. I didn't take myself seriously enough to play with the planned lots. Done with that now.

2) I was very careless with my dollars, willing to risk too much to make too little. Done with that, too.

3) I wasn't following the plan. That put me behind. Ready to play by the plan. It IS working :-)

Pippin' with PB's Today

Today was so much fun...after a dead Friday where I made ZERO trades - distractions distractions distractions - I was ready to pick up the action in my account.

It started slowly, with the market moving at a snail's pace. Miss that volatility ;-)

Then our PB's started to hit. Took advantage of the PB's in the GBPUSD and the cost average back down (even if I did it incorrectly according to our "rule book"). All of it was against me for most of the time I was in it. All the while, I watched my margin, ready to close out with no attachment (yeah, right...) if I went over my margin.

Trusting the Trade paid off!

Out to appointments and handling client affairs in my "real job" and then back to the Live Trading Floor where a few of my trading partners were still going at it.

I passed on the RAX trades and the 4/10's having committed to only doing PB's to build my account and follow the plan.

Entered the USDCHF a few times with another PB and finished the day with over 160 pips total (58.5 pips with 2 lots each).

Even with the losses in my account on those two days I went STUPID, I'm up 17% in my live account with just EIGHT days of live trading.

A good day. Startin' to feel like a Real Life Forex Trader - just a lil' bit.

What a comeback!

Criminy! Forgot my blogging for a minute.

Let's talk about Wednesday and the GBPUSD and AUDUSD pairs for a minute or two!!

Started off with a major loss of over 280 pips (can't remember the exact number - or maybe don't want to!). Got into SEVEN, yes SEVEN losing trades. Kept trying to cost average my way back and lost each and every stinkin' time. It was UGLY.

What happened?
UK had a speech with budget/forecasting and we underestimated the impact of the speech. For the first 30 min, there was no reaction in the market so we all assumed the impact would be low to none. We entered a very good looking ST. Wowsa...we got SMACKED upside the head exactly 30 min after the reported start of the speech. And it just wouldn't quit.

So, apparently a speech has more long lasting impact than an economic announcement. And...it doesn't hit the impact as quickly as an announcement. Conclusion. Stay out for at least 90 minutes on a speech and NEVER trade when the UK is having their budget/forecasting speech. Way more impactful than when our Bernanke speaks.

BUT...the good news is...

I rode that puppy right back up to the entry. 5-6 pips at a time. Slow and steady. Watching it "kiss the entry". Made all of my pips back plus over 160 additional! That's nearly a 500 pip day folks! I'll take that. My live account not only regained my losses from the day but also my losses from the previous week and also had a positive gain on top of that! I'll take that!

What I gained mostly from it was a major surge in confidence that:
1) I do know what I'm doing
2) I can take the emotion out of it and do what there is to do when I have a big loss
3) I can make my way back when it looks really ugly (reminds me of my very first skydive when my ropes were not only tangled but one broke midair...lesson there was "be calm, take time to think, find a solution - worked that time, too ;-)

On the other hand, the AUDUSD kicked my arse. Never did figure out what the heck the deal was, nor did my trading partners. But a simple PB went wrong and our stops proved too big for the risk. It sat there on us for nearly THREE hours. In the end, I was happy to take an 8 pip loss on my 3 lots. And right as I packed up my laptop and was going off to meet clients, the damn thing HIT my target and would have paid out!!!

Lesson here? My mantra (and you must know I put it up for all of our Live Traders each and every day) is "Trust the Trade". I did NOT practice what I preach. My AUDUSD would have paid me out.

I was still up well over 150 pips, so it was a good day of trading. But I am constantly reminded to trust what I know, trust what I've been taught by such World Class Master Traders...Trust the Trade.

As for yesterday (Thursday 4/23/09) not much to report. Behind on my pippage for the day. Only entered one lot for 10 pips. Puts me behind for the month and for my 30-30-90 plan.
Got into one PB trade and got distracted for the rest of the morning with admin and "other job" duties.

Looking to make up some pips today.

Not many triplicated levels today on the PB trades.
Several ST potentials but with no ROI confirmations so no entries.
Nothing close to my trendwalls.
None of my entry orders got pulled in on the London session and the NY session is even slower moving for the most part.

Saw the USDCHF shoot up 300 pips, but not sure if it was based on the announcement that came through so no safe reason to have entered that. I did see it was a trendwall breakout but truthfully didn't see it coming. My bad.

I want my PIPS! Daaaaaaaang.....

I can't feel the itchy finger - fishing for trades...wanting to find reasons to enter. Cannot find anything safe enough to enter so I'm holding off on placing any entries.

Back later if something happens before I leave the Live Trading Floor.

Monday Morning - 40.4 pips to the good - no complaints!

Didn't add another post on Friday, since I placed no trades.
I know...I know. I promised myself to trade each day.
I also promised not to lose PIPS or MONEY and any trades placed that morning would have been hunch trades. NOT in my Trading Plan.

Made pips today off several trades that were PB's.
USDCHF (off of my trendwall and our chart levels - "X" marked the sweet spot)
EURGBP
EURJPY

What I'm noticing about my Trading Plan is:
1) I keep forgetting to LOOK at it each day (thinking I already know what's on it- ha!)
2) I keep trading pairs that aren't on it so I add those pairs later. Basically, I'm a currency pair junkie and will trade what looks good as long as I'm comfortable with the currency pair. Oh my!
3) I'm not hitting 50 pips a day, which tells me I'm working off of fear of losing instead of trusting the trade enough to do the lots I need to do to ensure I hit 50 pips per day. ('cause some days, there just aren't enough trades to do during the hours I trade to hit my number on individual entries - today was close though)

What I'm seeing after getting my arse kicked on Thursday is I'm getting back to trading slowly and trepidatiously. I am totally fine trading, just not totally fine entering the amounts per trade I need to do. My promise to myself is to let go of the loss and move FORWARD. Trust myself!

Need to talk to my trading partner Cisco and get some insight to the ST's that kicked my butt. That will get complete today.

So far, I'm loving the trendwall trades and the PB trades. Need to work on the ST's and then add the 4/10's to my arsenal.

Slow moving today - except of course the dang USDCHF
Incidentally, the USDCHF seems to be closing a prior hole in the market at the 1768-1770 level off of the last big River X so I suppose that's where it's headed. I'm done playing with that one for a while.

Started off with an entry that was a mistake. Had to exit with 2.2 pip loss before it hurt me.

Then, had two entry orders for PB's on the EURJPY - which were good and paid out - except it missed my entry by 1 stinkin pip!!!!

I can't win today. I figure it will take me 150 trading days to make up for my losses last night. And with compounding, that's really a misnomer anyway.

Be done with it and suck it up I guess.

Next....!!

and not even a kiss

Went to bed and didn't worry about the trade. Three things went wrong:
1) didn't realize my sound was muted so the signal to warn me if I needed to move my stops wasn't heard
2) didn't place my stop 15 pips above the top level, so I got KNOCKED out!! Incidentally, the high was right at where I'd have placed my stop. But the dealer station may not have kicked me out nonetheless...who knows
3) didn't take into account the change in RCU/RCD levels for the London session from the Tokyo session when I entered the last two PB trades before bed

Result?

Lost 15% of my account.
Lost 385.4 pips - can you say STUPID???
Lost all profits for the last week and then some on this live account.

I didn't risk more than I was willing to lose in $$. However, I was NOT willing to lose all those pips and 15% of my account balance. I trusted the trade. I could do nothing else. At the same time, I did NOT manage the trade properly by not watching it, since it's an exotic pair and not placing my stop where I had intended to set it (15 pips above the wick).

What did I learn?
Trusting the trade is good.
Pay attention to the details.
Don't beat yourself up when you lose money and pips.
DON'T LOSE MONEY AND PIPS.
Don't just set entry orders on exotics.
Follow the rules
If you're not comfortable with following the rules, get out of the trade.
Oh yeah, and DON'T LOSE MONEY AND PIPS!!!!
When you can't figure out what's going on, look really really far to the left (not just a little bit).
And...um...DON'T LOSE MONEY AND PIPS!!!!!!

Had several great trades - some PB's off of trendwalls for 23 pips. LOVE 'EMI am gaining more and more confidence in these trendwall breakouts. Now if I can just be sure I'm perfecting drawing the trendwalls!! I'll be asking in the training audit I'm taking next week for sure.

Stuck in this USDCHF ST which my buddies got out of but I was in a meeting and it missed me by 2 pips!! :-(Cost averaged down again and made more pips
Talked this over with Trader CJ and made the decision to move my stop ridiculously too high since Big Daddy, the Weekly and the Daily are pointing in the right direction. I just need to let it run its course. I trust the trade. In the end, if I was trading more lots and bigger dollars, I'd NEVER have moved to that 200 pip stop. Just too much risk!!!

Accidentally got in on the wrong price and made a few bonus pips today. (NOT a good trading strategy but turned out in my favor)
Have 4 entry orders for PB's on the USDCHF and one on the EURUSD. Again - trusting the trade and going nana. I'm beat.

We'll see in the morning if I trusted in vain...

Up about 48 pips for the day. (Gotta figure out those fractions on FXCM)

GREAT trading morning

There were ST's that paid out on the GBPUSD and the EURUSD. Didn't have a chance to enter either one.

Some great PB's as well - off of trendwalls and off of our SmartChart levels. Didn't have a chance to enter them either.

Doing the webcast is a great learning avenue for me and love being a contribution. But it is COSTING me the way it's being done. Have to amend that LIKE NOW!!

Today was truly a great trading day and I missed out for sure. Not happy about it. Frustration is high.

I will not have much opportunity to trade after I leave the floor so that's it for me today. I refuse to fish out trades that don't exist or enter un-safe trades just to be trading.

This puts me at 40-100 pips behind for the week! Not good. Not acceptable.

Working on a better system.
Working to wrap up my "job" so I can trade longer in the morning.

Yesterday, I only saw a few trades I felt were trustworthy between 5-8am.

Missed three of them as I was distracted doing the Forex webcast. Stopped the webcast to place the fourth and it didn't take my entry in - by 1.2 pips!!!!!

TICKED OFF!!!

Too busy the rest of the day to even look at it. Hate that I have another job to do right now. I'm truly ready for being a full time trader.

Trendwall Breakouts - the BOMB!

Ok, so after I took a 41 pip bath on the USDCHF which I should never have entered and certainly shouldn't have left unattended, I went back in hours later for a trendwall breakout entry.

On the USDCHF.

Yep - it hit! Wahoo...recovered some of my pips for the day and back to the profits of Friday 4/10.

One note: I felt the sting of what Trader Don says: "won't you feel like you have big long ears if you're excited over a measly 20 pips (in my case 15) when you see it take off for a run of over 100 pips?" Yeah, I feel the long ears and heard "hee-haw" this morning. That sucker took off!

Gotta give myself a little growing room, though. Truth be told, these should be traded in a demo account since I'm new to them. I took a profit Live and I'm happy. Gaining confidence in the trade. And me.

So I spent the morning watching the EURJPY.

I MISSED two 4/10's and a trendwall breakout!! I was doing the webcast and setting alarms for entry signals and should have stopped it to enter but didn't. Changing that procedure immediately!!! Barry concurs.

Afterwards, I put in two entry orders for the EURJPY at 133.70 and 134.07 for 10 pips each. Let's see what happens. Unfortunately, I have to keep and eye on them to make sure I have additional reasons to keep the entries.

If it busts past the R5 level, I will cost average back down.

Trader CJ made a house call and my demo isn't up, so I passed.

12:44pm

1)Profited on the EURJPY at 133.70 - great triplication!
2) Deleted entry on the EURJPY at 134.07 - didn't make me comfortable to do it based on an unknown "hunch" type of formulation
3) Lost on a USDCHF PB - based my entry on other people's conversation on the Live Trading Floor. This did NOT meet the parameters I usually use and it was AGAINST my better judgment. Lessons Learned: a) Follow my own gut; b) do NOT trade PB's without proper triplication.

End result:
Lost my profits from today and part of Friday's as well
Have to start over on my LIVE account with count of consecutive trades without loss

Sad...just sad...

Next time: Trust Myself!!!!!

Ok - Admittedly, I'm not doing well on remembering to post DAILY. I'm working on the system to remind me!

Thursday, got 38 pips profit then headed to an audit of the Forex Movement Alpha Course with Trader Don - a Master Trader. A rare treat since he doesn't teach much these days! W-O-W!

Friday I FINALLY got in live and traded for 20 pips profit. Yayyyy!
Did two pullback trades that hit quickly.

More importantly, got a clear understanding of trend wall breakouts!!!! Whoa Nelly! These are phenomenal indicators and great trades to make. I'll be playing with these on demo for two weeks so I can become proficient enought to go live. In the meantime, I'll be doing my pullbacks each day and looking for ST's as well.

Today was my second day running the live webcast from the Trading Floor. Outside of technical difficulties, it's been a blast! I'm honing my skills and supporting my community of fellow traders.

I made 37.9 pips on two 2 Hr ST trades on the GBPUSD. Happy but not elated. Why? Because I traded them DEMO. Couldn't get into my live account - second time this has happened. Arrrrghghgh!! Nonetheless I have made a promise to trade every weekday, so live or demo, trades get placed. (unless it's non-farm day of course)

Had to put my stop a little wider than my comfort level, but the trade was good and it PAID! No PB trades happened while on the Live Trading Floor today. Those are my favorites. I'm still learning this ST trade model - both the 2 Hr and the 4 Hr so practice makes perfect. Demo is best while I'm still learning to master it.

I'll be looking for live PB trades tomorrow! I'm going to trade from 5-8am on the Live Trading Floor. Check back to see how it went :-)

Gearing up for the new Challenge

Okay, it's the end of the first week of April and I'm getting psyched up for the beginning of my $5k to $95k challenge. Starting with a small amount - $900. (Rules of the game) The plan is to take this to $1800 in 30 days; take the $1800 to $5000 in 30 days; then the $5000 to $95,000 in 90 days. 50 stinkin' pips a day to make it.

Does anyone think it's possible? I'm wondering myself. However, I believe in the trades and I have great faith in the methodology and tools I have in my arsenal. So, I'm trusting the trades and charging forward!

I've been trading in the Forex for the last 6 months - both demo and live. Trading with my comerades in the wee hours of the morning, I've had many successes (my longest streak is 40 trades without a loss) and I've had some emotional losses. The most important things I've learned so far are to "Trust the Trade" and take the emotion out of it. Manage the risk, manage the money. I'm ready for the challenge!!
